Thanks for the season review. It was nice to know how it all wrapped up. I unfortunately couldn't stick with the series as I was never really able to get used to Anueng's face and how childlike she always appeared to me. But I'm really glad so many people seemed to have enjoyed the series, being that high viewership and positive attention of wlw stories in media certainly helps to promote continued development and production of more wlw content in the future.

i think regina kissing janis is precisely what caused her change in attitude. because it made her realise that she might have liked it... a little too much. and accepting janis’ sexuality was one thing, but accepting her own was another thing entirely. saying “gay rights” in an abstract way is a lot easier than exploring your own potential gayness. accepting other people’s sexuality is essentially going “this is fine and means nothing to me because it’s not about me. it’s none of my business”. accepting others’ difference is a passive effort, it just means detaching yourself from others’ identities. it’s saying “this person is not me and their gender/sexual/aesthetic identity is not a reflection of my own”. but accepting your own sexuality is a way bigger beast and a lot harder to do, because it involves changing your own perception of yourself. it’s an active effort, and it’s scary, both because it means seeing yourself differently than you have previously, and because you have to reckon with the fact that people are going to see you differently, and possibly antagonise you, especially if you live in a very heteronormative environment (as regina does). it’s knowing that, from the second your accept and reveal that part of yourself, your life is going to be harder. and i think kissing janis brought all of that up for regina, and in that split second, she said no. i’m not ready for that. this isn’t going to be my life. and so she overcorrected and instead of not reacting to the kiss and detaching herself from those feelings so she could deal with them later, she pushed things too far and turned her own panic about herself onto janis. i think it makes perfect sense for a teenage girl with regina’s upbringing to worry so much about other people’s (and her own) perception of her that she turned to cruelty in order to protect herself. and i think it is entirely possible that she managed to convince herself that she was in the right and that janis Was creepy and obsessed and that she (regina) made the right call in cutting ties with her and calling her out. sometimes it’s easier to lie to ourselves than to brave confronting a scary truth.

I really wanted to love this book. Everyone kept saying it was a must-read if you could stand the trigger warnings. Well I wanted a trigger warning for when Rachel is about to go down on Miriam and she gets a faint smell of feces. Everyone mentions the fish, no one mentions the shit. 😭

I read this book in French three months ago and i liked it, even if it was a really sad story in my opinion. The title is not a translation of the english one, it's "les 7 nuits de Miriam" (the 7 nights of Miriam) so it focuses on a small part of the book really. I don't know why the publisher made that choice. I'm gonna try and look into it.
